1. PURPOSE: To provide information on the Non Prior Service Enlistment Bonus (NPSEB)

2. General information:
a. Overview:
The NPSEB is a part of the Army National Guard (ARNG) Selected Reserve Incentive Program (SRIP) Guidance for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007, 2008 and 2009, 10 August 2007 – 30 September 2009 (Policy Number 07-06) with Updates. This guidance was updated effective 1 March 2009.

b. Purpose:
The purpose of the NPS Enlistment Bonus is to assist ARNG leadership and personnel managers in meeting and sustaining the readiness requirements for the ARNG. The NPS Enlistment Bonus is used to recruit individuals without prior military service. Upon enlistment, Soldiers either enlist for critical skills as designated by each separate state or territory or in a critical unit as designated by the Director of the Army National Guard.

c. Bonus Amount:

Applicants enlisting may combine certain bonuses. The maximum bonus amount offered is $20,000. No combination of bonuses may exceed the $20,000 limit set by Federal Law.

 *(1) QS – Quick Ship. Enlistees agree to ship within 45 days of enlistment or when needed to assist with the management of training seats. May be combined with OPS
(2) OPS – Off Peak Ship. Enlistees agree to ship during from 1 October through 31 May. May be combined with QS.
(3) AVCRAD – Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot
(4) RTI – Regional Training Institute
(5) CASP – Civilian Acquired Skills Program. Enlistee has civilian skill that qualifies them for an Army MOS with no further training required. If a CASP Enlistee enlists for either a critical unit or skill, they may qualify for that bonus.

d. General Criteria:
Enlistees must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Any applicant who enlists while still in high school, must complete his or her high school education and be awarded a high school diploma to meet the minimum eligibility for a NPS bonus.

  2. Applicants must qualify as a Category I-IIIA enlistment, Armed Forces Qualification Test (AFQT) of 50 or higher.

  3. Soldiers must ship on or before their original ship date which must be within 1 year of their enlistment date. (a) Split Option Enlistees must ship on or before both original ship dates.

  4. The State Military Personnel Officer (MILPO) may approve exceptions in cases where the inability to ship within the above time frames is due to no fault of the Soldier.

  5.  Soldiers must complete Advanced Individual Training (AIT) and become Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) Qualified (MOSQ) within 2 years.

  6.  College First Enlistees are not authorized any bonuses for enlistment into any designated critical unit.
