Preparing to Leave
When you are called to report for BCT, your RRNCO and/or your unit representative
will notify you in order to discuss your departure and to ensure that you have
completed all the necessary processing.
You will receive military orders, transportation information and tickets,
and meal tickets.
Before you leave, you should take care of all financial and personal obligations.
You should also prepare for any emergencies.
The following are guidelines:
Family Obligations
Take care of any financial matters, like car payments, charge accounts, rent
or mortgage payments, etc. Make any provisions needed for your family, including
ID cards and local points of contact for emergencies.
Emergencies
Tell your family to contact the nearest American Red Cross Chapter in the event
of an emergency. Also, be sure to leave your unit phone number with your
family. The local American Red Cross Chapter and the Army National Guard
will work together to assist you and can arrange emergency leave if needed.
Don't forget, your Army National Guard unit is there to help you and your
family!
Employer Notification
Long before you leave for BCT, you must tell your employer that you will be
away from work. You'll find the information you need in the Employment Rights
area within the Unit Family Action Plan.
Liaison Office Phone Number
The Liaison Officer/NCO is a member of the Army National Guard on active duty
at military installations. Be sure that you have a phone number to reach
him or her in case of delayed arrival or other emergency.
Travel
You will travel to your BCT Reception Station by air, train, and/or bus. If
there is a delay, get a statement from a ticket agent stating the reason
(i.e., plane delayed because of weather). If the delay will cause you to
arrive after midnight on your scheduled arrival date, get a statement from
the ticket agent and call the Liaison NCO at your destination.
