Tools To Assist In The Battle Of Attrition
The Strength Maintenance Division of the National Guard Bureau (NGB-ASM) provides guidance, assistance
and tools to help reduce losses and increase accessions. The four
tools specifically designed to enhance attrition management programs
are:
First Line Leader Training (FLLT) (TEAM #1):
- 4-hour block of instruction designed to assist leaders in
attrition management.
- Can be taught by Mobile Training Team (MTT). Contact the
Strength Maintenance Center at PEC.
- Can be taught by the NGB-ASM MTT for MACOM and higher units.
- All states/territories have certified instructors for FLLT.
- States who have embraced FLLT have shown great improvement.
Leadership Strength Readiness (LSR) (TEAM #2)
- 4-hour block of instruction designed as a follow-up for FLLT.
- Can be taught by Mobile Training Team (MTT). Contact the
Strength Maintenance Center at PEC.
- Can be taught by the NGB-ASM MTT for MACOM and higher units.
- Most states/territories have certified instructors for LSR.
START Kits
- Developed to replace the New Challenges, New Opportunities
brochure.
- Designed for new non-prior service soldiers and new prior
service soldiers.
Strength Maintenance and Attrition
Model II (SMAM II)
- Developed to assist commanders in assessing their unit's
attrition environment.
- Replaces the Unit Climate Survey.
- All states/territories have the SMAM available, including
scanners to record results.
